Introduction to Mera Peak

Mera Peak, at 6,476 meters (21,247 feet), stands as Nepal's highest trekking peak, a unique opportunity for both seasoned trekkers and aspiring mountaineers. It offers a challenging yet accessible climb, culminating in an unparalleled panoramic view. Imagine yourself on the summit, surrounded by five of the world's 8,000-meter giants: Everest (8,849 m), Lhotse (8,586 m), Cho Oyu (8,188 m), Makalu (8,485 m), and Kanchenjunga (8,586 m). This breathtaking vista is the ultimate reward for your dedication and effort. The peak comprises three prominent summits:

  • Mera North (6,476 m)
  • Mera Central (6,461 m)
  • Mera South (6,065 m)

and the climb typically targets Mera Central, which offers a straightforward route through its north face glacier.

While classified as a "trekking peak," Mera Peak demands respect. The ascent, primarily via the north face, involves glacier travel and requires the use of crampons and ice axes on slopes reaching 30-40 degrees. This provides valuable experience with essential mountaineering skills and equipment in a challenging yet controlled environment. It's the perfect bridge between trekking and more technical climbs, demanding good physical fitness and an appreciation for the power of the mountains. The altitude, the ever-changing weather, and the sheer scale of the landscape create an experience that is both exhilarating and humbling.

Our approach to your Mera Peak climb is built on experience and meticulous planning. Acclimatization is our priority, and our itinerary includes ample time for your body to adjust to the altitude. We also offer pre-summit training, led by our expert climbing Sherpas, to refine your skills and boost your confidence. Our team comprises seasoned mountaineers who possess in-depth knowledge of the mountain. They'll provide expert guidance and support every step of the way, ensuring your safety and maximizing your chances of success. We foster a supportive atmosphere where climbers can learn from each other and share the experience.

The Mera Peak expedition is also a cultural journey. Trekking through the lowering Khumbu region, you'll encounter traditional Sherpa villages, experiencing their rich culture and warm hospitality. As you ascend towards Kothe, you will enter the Makalu Barun National Park, the best preserved of all national parks in Nepal. Because of the transition in altitude, you will get to experience the diverse ecological beauty of the region, transitioning from lush rhododendron and pine forests to alpine meadows and barren, icy landscapes.

The well-defined trail features comfortable lodges along most of the route, offering a welcome respite after each day's trek. At high camp, we provide pre-pitched tents for your comfort and convenience.

Mera Peak: Your Himalayan Adventure Awaits

It calls to those who dream of standing atop the world, witnessing a panorama of Himalayan giants. Whether you're an experienced trekker ready to take the next step or an aspiring mountaineer eager to begin your high-altitude journey, Mera Peak offers an unparalleled opportunity. Test your limits, experience the majesty of the Himalayas, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Crucial Notes for Everest Region Treks in Peak Seasons

Flight Diversions to Ramechhap (Manthali) Airport:

  • During peak trekking seasons-mid-September to November and March to May-flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are rerouted through Ramechhap Airport. This adjustment is due to the high demand and congestion at Tribhuvan International Airport. Travelers must plan for a 4–5-hour drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap, typically undertaken the day before the flight.

Buffer Days for Delays and Cancellations:

  • Weather in the Everest region is unpredictable, and flight delays or cancellations are common, especially in Lukla. It is highly recommended to include at least one or two extra buffer day in your itinerary to account for these potential disruptions. This precaution ensures a smoother and stress-free trekking experience.

The Trekking Day

The day usually begins between 6.30 am and 7.30 am, with breakfast. During breakfast, the crew members make up the loads for the porters. You often start hiking by 7:30 am, though we wait for the sun to warm the air at higher altitudes.

The pace for the day is set at a lower speed. Instead, you will have time to become aware of everything around you and to enjoy it. Our guides are excellent timekeepers but cannot make you rush over the mountains!

The afternoon walk follows a similar pattern to the morning; it is often shorter, and your lodge is usually reached between 4 pm and 5 pm. There is plenty of time to relax or explore the surrounding area until the evening meal is served at about 6.30 pm. After dinner, there is time to chat, read or enjoy a game of cards with our crew. Most members are asleep by 9 pm.

We provide a highly experienced team of IFMGA/UIAGM guides, assistant guides if required, cook and kitchen staff, rope fixing team, and high-altitude workers. Our team is committed to ensuring your safety and satisfaction during your adventure.
